Drugs and substance abuse among teenagers and young adults has reached a very worrisome dimension. While there are established agencies required to deal with the growing and distribution of prohibited drugs and related substances, there is no ready intervention that aims to attend to the psycho-social neediness of the individual or collective emotions of our young and vulnerable populations. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education – (DARE) is directed at educating our target audience on the specifics of drugs and substances and the implications of their use, over use and abuse.
Implementation
The DARE is implemented as an advocacy and awareness campaign intervention to focus groups, across several senior secondary schools, as club activities, formal class room teaching sessions, and lunch time pep talk series as well as specialized training sessions, depending on the peculiarity, preference and convenience of the groups and schools. The delivery of the rich educational contents is fused with a component of behavioural change management– Coaching and Mentoring Services.
